Phil Geil, Master Potter, has been crafting pottery with his hands, eyes, mind and heart for over 30 years in his studio on Clay Avenue in beautiful Austin, Texas. Phil has been able to produce a beautiful line of porcelain with equally brilliant glazes. The porcelain and glazes are the result of years of trials and effort. His porcelain is all hand thrown on a potter’s wheel. To watch him put a ball of clay on the wheel and fashion a beautiful piece of porcelain is a sight to behold. After the pottery has been thrown, Phil then chatters and uses various techniques to vary his creations. Once the pottery has taken its shape, it is then dried and placed in the kiln for a bisque. The glazes are Rutile Blue with various washes of iron, Cobalt, Celadon Green, Temmoko-Black and Copper Red. Once the glaze has been applied, it is then refired in the downdraft gas kiln at temperatures of 2400F. After the kiln has cooled for approximately 18 to 30 hours it can be unloaded. The end result of this intensive process is a beautiful and distinctive piece of porcelain that will make any corner of the house a masterpiece.
